Blog Aid: Recipes for Haiti

Posted by Shaina On February - 6 - 2010

I am here at Blissdom this week(end), but I have to tear myself away from the wonderful presentations and amazing people to tell you about something I have had the incredible opportunity to be a part of. When Julie from Dinner with Julie posted just after the Haiti earthquake about her vision to raise money and funds to donate, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. And as she embarked on the journey of putting together a compilation cookbook from 27 different food blogs and get editors and publishers... more

Happy Holidays and Resolutions from The O6: Goodbye, 2009!

Posted by Shaina On December - 30 - 2009

Considering New Year’s Eve is tomorrow, I thought I’d get on sharing our card before the holidays are behind us. Maybe I was aiming for Valentine’s Day? I joked about it on Twitter today in an attempt to conceal my shame. In an attempt to rectify the end-of-the-year disorganization that seems to be controlling me the last two weeks, HERE is our Christmas/New Year/12th Day of Christmas/January card: I’m looking forward to our first full year here on Food for My Family,... more

Streusel Pumpkin Bread: Conquered

Posted by Shaina On November - 21 - 2009

I have a confession. I am a coffee lover. Maybe it’s the fact that coffee shops are EVERYwhere. There are the plain white cups with the brown sleeves at the local shop two blocks away. When I take my kids to the library, the Brothers stare me down. Still, it could be that I shop at Target, and the topless mermaid calls my name as I walk through the door. Whatever it is, I know that it gets worse as the weather in Minnesota gets colder. But I am a big believer in doing it myself, living... more

There’s a turkey to purchase, a menu to plan, recipes to thumb through, grocery shopping that needs to happen and cleaning. Don’t even get me started on the cleaning. Traditional Thanksgiving dinners can be a lot of work, and planning and organization go a long way to ensuring yours comes together all at the right time. Before you pass on the turkey and stuffing, take a look over at Organizing your Way today where I am sharing a few tips on how you can make your Turkey Day stress... more

Fair Food, Guest Posts and Recipe Cards All At Once

Posted by Shaina On September - 24 - 2009

Before this becomes irrelevant – and maybe it already is – I wanted to share some of the culinary delights ate the fair this year. Reflecting back on it, we kind of decided it was a mild year for us. I mean, we didn’t go for the ostrich or the alligator, bacon-on-a-stick or even deep-fried Oreos. There’s always next year. From left to right, top to bottom: 1) Chicken pesto crepe, carnival ride at night, the Giant Slide, Skyride 2) Cheese curds, sharing our lemonade with a bee,... more

More Than Simple Food

Posted by Shaina On September - 8 - 2009

When I’m not toiling away in the kitchen, working behind a computer screen or playing with my new camera, I sometimes consider getting around to decorating my home. Actually, I think about it a lot. It’s the getting to it portion I have issues with. I have plenty of ideas and things I like, but time kind of gets away from me with all the other things going on. Today I talked about actually accomplishing something in the design category over at Simple Nest, a channel of Simple Mom.... more
