Airports, Pasta, Grillin’ and More

Posted by Shaina On May - 14 - 2011

We’re working with Barilla Pasta and Piccolini TV to make a series of Kids Cooking videos. I’m excited to be a part of this project and hope you’ll subscribe over there and follow along with us as we make our way through the summer season. Speaking of summer, we’re also grillin’ up a storm now that it’s warm out, and we’re getting ready to host a smoky party for friends and neighbors this week. I was stuck in the airport in Phoenix this last week. My luggage... more

A Very Serious Mother’s Day (but not really)

Posted by Shaina On May - 8 - 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and all the moms-to-be, the first-timers and to those special women who may not have their own children but are moms to many. You are special, loved and appreciated. Enjoy today. I set out to get these runts to smile on Easter, which is never an easy feat. Taking photos of other people’s kids is a different skill set than taking photos of your own, and while I do both often, I don’t do family photos with all of them usually. As... more

Bobby Flay Makes Sandwiches in NYC: A Giveaway!

Posted by Shaina On May - 7 - 2011

A few weeks ago I headed out to New York. I was there with Hellmann’s Club Sandwich to participate in a media event with Bobby Flay for the Build the Perfect Sandwich campaign. I had the chance to sit down with Bobby and ask a few questions, and he also signed his Burgers, Fries and Shakes cookbook for me to give away here on Food for My Family along with a 4-person picnic set! Upon arriving in New York, of course the first thing I did was hook up with Amber from Bluebonnets and Brownies... more

National Nutrition Month: Very Hungry Caterpillar Giveaway!

Posted by Shaina On March - 20 - 2011

I remember reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to my sister when she was growing up, and it was one of the first books I purchased for my first child as well. There hasn’t been a moment in my kids’ lives where this book wasn’t front and center and at the top of the bedtime reading list. It is Magnus who is currently fascinated by its bright illustrations and the pictures of food. For the very hungry caterpillars in my own home, it’s important for me to teach them how to... more

Later this week we’ll be looking at different kinds of “picky eaters” and the differences between them. What are the different reasons a child may present as picky? Where we’ll go from there: What’s a supertaster? We’ll all be taking the test here. Are you a supertaster? We’ll hear from Janice Bissex, RD about picky eaters in... more

We’ll be rolling out a few changes this weekend, which will hopefully go smoothly, beginning with some minimal design stuff, but first, I want to share the Top 5 Recipes on Food for My Family in 2010 based on views! Chicken fried rice is still one... more

Weekly Menu Inspired by the Dole Bloggers Wellness Summit

Posted by Shaina On December - 13 - 2010

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” – Michael Pollan A month ago now I attended the Dole Bloggers Wellness Summit hosted by Dole at the Four Seasons in Westlake Village. I sat and listened to the nutrition advice that was being dished out in support of fruit and vegetables, a recommended 7-10 servings which reduces inflammation. We were told that 33% of women and 50% of men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and that 80% of cancer is caused by poor diet, inactivity... more
