Fall came in this week with a burst of cool wind, bringing out our sweaters and socks, sandals packed reluctantly away as we prepare to move into the next season. Still, though, there are tomatoes and summer squash at the farmers market, hopefully for a few more weeks, sitting in wooden crates and baskets right alongside the apples that are becoming more and more prevalent with each passing week, and the last of the summer vegetables must not go unused. I’ve been craving curry for a while,... more
Saying Goodbye to Summer: Thai Red Curry Shrimp
Weekly Dinner Menu for 9/14/10 and the Last Days of Summer Giveaway
One of the things we strive for when planning our menus is making everything fit together into one nice, neat little package. We look to use ingredients in different ways throughout the week so that we’re benefiting from the ability of do-aheads and being able to buy in bulk. We also benefit from a well-stocked pantry. Yes, I’m a day late and a dollar short. Autumn is inevitable, and when the sun was shining yesterday, my head got swept up and I ran outside, oblivious to the pile... more
Peaches and Coconut Cream Muffins to Warm the Soul
Back-to-school is over. My kids are officially back, and that means summer is coming to a close. The sun isn’t as warm these days, and my garden is prolific for the lack of heat, not because of it. The farmers market will start changing over their produce as the season changes, and already the winter squash is showing up more and more, and the summer squash is becoming fewer and farther between. For all these reasons, I’m making peach muffins. All summer I wait for the peaches to come, and when... more

Lemon Frozen Yogurt: Frozen Yogurt of the Gods
Maybe I named this recipe for lemon frozen yogurt the “Yogurt of the Gods” because it has Greek yogurt in it, which instantly makes me think of Greek mythology, or perhaps it was birthed out of how heavenly it tastes. Still, though, there’s a chance that I named it that because my kids have been watching The Lightning Thief, reading the Percy Jackson books and pretending they can control massive amounts of water like any true son of Poseidon could. Maybe it’s a combination... more
Weekly Dinner Menu: 8/16/10
One of the things we strive for when planning our menus is making everything fit together into one nice, neat little package. We look to use ingredients in different ways throughout the week so that we’re benefiting from the ability of do-aheads and being able to buy in bulk. We also benefit from a well-stocked pantry. This week’s menu is dedicated to gardens everywhere overflowing with zucchini. It is also dedicated to my love and my kids’ love for broccoli, but dressing it... more
Mediterranean Bean Salad and Greek Chicken Gyros
This is a post about bean salad. A Mediterranean bean salad I made back in June. It has taken me this long to share it, but that’s because I had some other sharing I was obligated to do. It’s a post about Greek seasoning on chicken. It’s a post about stuffing it all together in a pita, serving it with tzatziki to make a chicken gyro and having a wonderful meal with your family and your friends and your neighbors. It’s a post about food. This is a post about the food I... more
