Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor Giveaway and Back-to-School Basics

Going through the Eat Well, Spend Less basics of back-to-school ideas for staying sane as we head into the school year, and I’m giving away a Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor with the Juice Extractor and Smoothie Attachment to make it that much easier!

Stuff. Stuff gets in the way of the things I want to accomplish. It sits there towering, a giant pile of misshapen boxes precariously perched on top of each other and forcing me to deal with it by gingerly removing and dealing with one box at a time. Removing them is the only way to get to the other side where my goals like waiting.

I was walking through the farmers market yesterday between rows and rows of fresh produce in abundance thinking about how this is my favorite time of year. There is so much potential just waiting to be used. You just have to make the time to buy cases and cases of tomatoes and berries and green beans and then process them and put them up and THAT is about the time I started to feel my throat close and block off the oxygen from the anxiety of not having enough time.

It seems that there is never enough time for whatever it is we hope to accomplish. So, today, I share with you the secret to having enough time: You must make it.

Some things are worth setting aside the time for. You just need to prioritize what those things are. Last week it was making the drive to my daughter’s first ever swim meet on the high school team, sporting her shiny black and silver suit. I was up to my eyeballs in work. My house was trashed. There were so many things on my to-do list that day I had no hope of finishing them all, even without adding a rush-hour drive and sitting at the pool.

I arrived with the three younger kids in tow. They wanted to climb right over the wall of the balcony and jump in the pool. When it was Kiera’s turn to swim my kids screamed her name. They called down to her after she reappeared at the edge of the pool, and she waved and smiled. And it was worth every minute.

Taking advantage of the farmers market produce at this time of year is similar. You make the time or you don’t, and when I don’t, I regret it. I regret it for months afterwards. Last year I failed to make pesto. I was in the midst of writing my book, my son was in the ICU, I was chairing my kids’ elementary school book fair. It just didn’t happen because I didn’t make the time for it. Months in the winter when I really needed pesto it was unavailable. Our freezer stock was empty, and while I filled in with other things, I even purchased some at the store, it just wasn’t the same.

This year I am determined to kill the time demons where they stand. Pesto is happening. Quarts of crushed tomatoes have been put up. Green beans are next. (I’m coming for you.)

Which brings me to my next bit of business. For the pesto-making and the frozen-smoothie-creating, I bring you a giveaway for a fun kitchen tool that helps make things like this take far less time. You see, 14 cups will do that to you. No, not coffee. Fourteen cups of food processing goodness.+

A Giveaway:

I’m giving away a Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor (the one in the photos above, actually) with the Juice Extractor and Smoothie Attachment (Combined ARV $479.90). It’s a huge food processor that will hold your largest jobs. My favorite part so far is the giant bowl. I used to always get my last food processor to leak. Not so with this one. The variety of blades and their storage case make keeping it ready to go easy, and the juice and smoothie attachment means it serves more than one function.

  37. Tricia Anderson says:

Your words in this post were just the strength and encouragement I needed today to focus on what is important in all the madness. Processor or not, it gave me a skip in my chaos. =) Thanks!

  38. Here’s a story of a fond memory.

My mom and I are known for our carrot cake recipe. We always shredded our carrots in the blender when I was young, because that’s the only thing we had to do it with…when I was 8, we were working as the dynamic duo. She peeled the carrots, dropped them in the blender, and I whirred away. We were moving at lightning speed and I forgot to put the lid on the blender with the last carrots she tossed in. We had carrots ALL OVER the kitchen. We fell on the floor in a fit of laughter and looked up — there were shredded carrots on the ceiling that eventually landed in our hair. We never made a carrot cake again without mentioning the carrot shredding escapade. My mom died three years ago, and it’s one of the best memories I recall.

  39. So- do I get extra points for saying that my food processor is kind of melted since I zapped some chocolate in it? Sigh. Still works – but not a pretty picture!

    And I tweeted!

  116. I would love to win this food processor! Mine died a few years back, after many years of use, and haven’t been able to afford to replace it. Hmm…I could make pesto again, too!

  117. This is my first autumn with 2 out of 3 kids in school. Little guy left behind is not happy. Perhaps a smoothie would help?

  118. I’ve been thinking about how much I need a food processor- just haven’t had time to canvass yard sales since the boys’ ball seasons completely overlap yard sale season. This would definitely solve the problem!

  119. My canning and processing takes all of my time this time of year. I have to take time for the other activities. This processor would make it all a little easier.

  120. Wow, this food processor looks incredible. Just the thing to conquer the kitchen. My canning, jamming efforts could increase substantially. Thanks!

  121. I feel your pain! With the decision to homeschool year round, it seems like there never enough time to get the things done that need to be done! Thank goodness for the hours between 430 and 7 when the rest of the family rises! I also tweeted & shared on facebook.

  122. Denise Terry says:

I so understand what you are saying…you have to make the time to put food up. Many late nights and egg sandwich dinners are the sacrifices I make to can tomatoes and make applesauce and apple butter. In the winter when all you have to do is run to your basement pantry and grab a can of summer bounty, you are so thankful you made the time!

  123. I want to win this! Thanks for the giveaway!

  124. Use a food processor almost everyday!

  125. It is very hard to make the time to do all the things we want/need to do. Last year our cows got in the garden area and ate down the green beans. I so missed having those fresh frozen green beans in the winter. The frozen one’s in the store just don’t cut it.

  126. I have a son who loves veggies. This would be so great to help further his palette. I would be so honored to own one.

  127. Would love to have the processor! It would be
so handy to have for a variety of foods.

  128. I feel you pain. I’ve made many a mess with stuff leaking out of the bowl. And I must say, I looooove kitchen gadgets, especially when they make my life easier!

  129. What a great food processor! The one I use is one I bought when I was a graduate student so you know it’s not great πŸ™‚ Small and not so powerful. I’ve tried stuffing the full recipe into it with predictably bad results – a real mess to clean up. Thanks for the giveaway!

  130. Looks amazing! Exactly what my kitchen is missing!

  131. This would be awesome and much better than the one I currently own that is horrible to shred and slice veggies! I love gathering and freezing produce so I have it all winter.

  132. Comment left.

  133. Well, I’ve been trying some new things lately, including Date Paste as a sweetener. My most recent attempt was Almond Butter. Unfortunately, this stripped my inexpensive electric food chopper. I am now down to using only manual utensils for chopping, slicing and shredding. I’d love a nice food processor. Oh the things I could do!

  134. I’ve been using a mini food chopper for years because I can’t bring myself to spend the $.

  135. I had to start cooking from scratch vs processed foods a few years back due to health reasons. I tried to save up for a food processor to widen my variety of foods but 2 rounds of unemployment have my finances in the red. I would stand on my head and sing the national anthem for this beauty! I shared the giveaway to Facebook too.

  136. Wow….a great canning tool too!
    Shared on facebook.

  137. Also tweeted!

  138. Sara Tucholsky says:

My husband finally threw away the processor that I inherited from my mom because it was losing pieces and leaked everywhere (I stubbornly continued to use it because I couldn’t justify spending the money I wanted to spend on a new one). I have yet to replace it and there are recipes I simply can’t do in a blender.

  139. Julie Simko says:

I’ve recently started canning and cooking more….never had a food processor and I’ll bet that would come in handy!

  140. I shared this on facebook.

  141. I know what you mean about time. If you have freezer space, you can just freeze tomatoes whole. When you want to make sauce, you just run them under hot water, the peel slips off, and then I plunk them in my pan. They melt/thaw quite nicely. (By the way, I would love a new food processor. The bowl on mine broke, so now I use a skewer to press the locking button down while holding the lid on at the same time).

  142. Awesome, awesome, awesome giveaway!

  143. Oh we could definitely use this in our kitchen!

  144. Martha Hughes says:

I have been working at eating whole foods with my family. This food processor would really help in preparing food. I have a small one but could use the power that this one provides.

  145. Martha Hughes says:

  146. I don’t even use the current one I have since it is so junky! This would be a great prize!

  147. Oh the thoughts of all the things I could make with this!

  148. Debbie Freund says:

    What a great giveaway!

  149. I can definitely sympathize with the overwhelmed feeling!

  150. Awesome!!!Would love to own this!!!

  159. I would love to win a really good food processor…thanks.

  160. Posted on twitter!

  161. I would love to win this! I’m thinking I can sneak more veggies into my family’s diet if I can puree & mix the viggies into our meals. πŸ™‚

  162. Christie Block says:

How much do I want to win this! It looks lovely and while we’re at it, I sure wouldn’t mind eating that pesto either.

  174. I have a tiny food processor that takes 5 batches just to get a cup or two worth of food…I am in love with this food processor!!

  175. I get that throat-closing anxiety all the time! Thanks for the tips!

  176. A story? I love to cook as well, and my house is a constant mess as I grip with what is truly appropriate. I have been on a mission to declutter our home. Yes, but trying to profit by it as well, so there it sits in our living room. So much of it, there is hardly any walking room anymore. All listed on the web waiting for someone to grab it up. But what we truly need is built in bookshelves, for many reasons. We have way too many books. They need a home. Also, we have these great basket in which to put stuff, but no where to put the basket. So I am trying to organize. And if I could combine a few appliances into one, this mixer sounds too good to be true! Hope I win!

Just curious, do they notify the winner by email?

  177. shared the link on facebook!

  178. 14 cups of coffee would also get things done a lot quicker! Great giveaway & just in time for helping puree plum butter & apple butter πŸ™‚

  180. I tweeted about the giveaway too

  181. Oooooh! I would love to have this food processor! Pretty please?

  182. I would love this food processor….man I am salivating over all the good food I could make with this!

  183. I would love to win this!

  184. Jessica Hackman says:

I really really wish that Downton Abbey was showing in the US right now too! I don’t want to wait until Jan.!

  185. That pesto looks so good. Love your site, thanks:)

  186. i would love this! i have three boys and i have a super old black and decker processor that is almost 20 years old! it is pathetic and one of the rubber feet is missing. it jumps all over the counter when i use it. i have to fold it down so it doesn’t flip itself onto the floor!!!! that magimix looks awesome!!!

  187. i shared this on fb, too!

  188. Could certainly use one of these in our kitchen.

  189. I too have been trying to figure out where the time will come to put things up this year…with a baby coming, a 3 year old and a big move it’s been a crazy summer and I have nothing but some strawberry jam on my shelves. This would help with many items that I want to make for the winter!!

  190. Great giveaway! I would love to have a food processor with a juicer attachment.

  191. This would be amazing. I do have a little Sears food processor that I picked up from the thrift store. It was probably at least 30 years old. The grater attachment broke and it doesn’t stand up to big jobs.

  192. Hello, what a great giveaway. I was chatting with a friend about how great it would be to own one of these machines yesterday! Thank you for the chance to win!

    Also tweeted!

  193. I have a mini food processor and it’s always leaking because I overfill it. I can’t even let it run without holding the button down. I would love a new food processor to make almond butter!

  194. Crystal Lambright says:

Yummy! That looks good, and I sooo need a processor! Thanks for posting!

  195. Wow!

  196. I tweeted about this giveaway!

  197. Oh I hope I get picked! I would love this! Cooking for 4 boys; I could really use this!

  198. Great giveaway, Shaina! And I agree, sometimes you just have to make the time for things. I never got around to making any relishes last year, and I sorely regretted it when we wanted to grill over the winter. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the HFCS-laden ones from the store. Now, fresh cucumbers are nearly at an end – thanks for the reminder to get moving!

  199. This is so true!

  205. Oh my! The things I could make with this!!!! <3

  206. Pesto is my favorite summer food! I check for basil as soon as the Farmer’s Market opens in the spring, and my family eagerly anticipates the very first batch of pesto. I have never tried freezing it, but I can’t imagine a better way to break the winter doldrums than serving a summer favorite in the middle of February!

  231. I love my current food processor, but with a family of five its 7 cup capacity just does not cut it. I would love one with more capacity!

  232. Chop local.

  233. Anyone know what is the average life expectancy of a food processor? My current Kitchenaid processor is 3 years old and literally falling apart(I have to jam a chopstick in it to make it run). Wondering how the Magimix compares.

  234. I would love a new food processor! I’m currently stuck using my little immersion blender for everything, or hand chopping.

A few months ago, I found out my husband was cheating on me. We went to counseling and tried to make it work. But he decided he didn’t want to be with me. And then he filed for divorce. The past few months have been depressing and trying. My husband left our house, our dog and every responsibility he signed on for. I’ve been working hard to keep things together, but I’ve begun to forget about myself. This gift would remind me why I’m valued, special and loved. I hope you’ll make my wish come true.

So, my story for you today is this: I tried my hand at canning tomato sauce this year. I made 8 quarts of it from a 25 lb box. Good thing that is all I had cuz it was hard work. The funny part? Or should I scary part? I water-bathed it for 45 minutes. Those jars boiled on my counter for hours. But I read that it is better to over-process than to under-process. I am okay right?

    Ps. I shared on FB.

  501. Gianna Peralta says:

    Dear Shaina,

I stumbled upon your website while browsing Facebook and would like to share my story with you. My name is Gianna and I am a senior undergraduate student at UC Berkeley. When I read your post about making time for the important things in life it completely resonated with me- between classes, lab, applying to graduate schools, serving as president of the American Medical Student Association, and working on my senior honors thesis, I can say with confidence that I understand what it is like to be busy. Over the years I’ve learned to prioritize my time better, and recently I have even been setting aside enough time to make it to the gym. The one thing I am still adjusting to is making my own food at home, rather than always eating out and on the run. I would love to win the Magimix giveaway as I believe it would really save me time and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Thank you for sharing your posts and this wonderful giveaway!

  502. My food processor is falling apart and I have no money to get a new one. What a huge blessing this would be…HUGE! Thanks for sharing!

I keep burning through cheaper processors and juicers and really would like one that is powerful enough to do tough jobs without fizzling out after some usage. Thanks for your emails and your recipes. Good stuff!!!

  553. I forgot to mention that I shared on Facebook too!

  554. I have never owned a food processor in my life. However, I have seen friends who have one use it to do amazing things. I would love to own one someday and coincidentally my hubby and I were just discussing the possibility of purchasing one, but they are so expensive. I blend a lot because of my choices in cooking and the blender we have had since we got married almost six years ago is getting ready to give up the ghost. Hope my name gets chosen for this wonderful life easing tool.

  555. Still don’t have a food processor!!

  556. Kate Anderson says:

  557. I need a real food processor. As in one that actually processes. This one looks good.

  558. Caroline I. says:

The smoothie attachment would be great for me to start incorporating more veggies into my diet, and the food processor itself means I can start making my own poi! (I’m usually too lazy/don’t have the time to make it the traditional way. =P)

  567. Im only just learning how to put food by. I love the idea of having home made pesto available all year! I shal have to try this.

  568. The most peaceful hour I’ve had in the last month was spent sitting in my cushioned glider chair inside the glass sliding doors that go out onto the deck, at 3 am, with the kitty on my lap, both of us watching a young possum exploring in my large pots of plants. He curled up in one at one point and I thought I really should be wearing gloves when I work in the plants. The cat? He was perfectly content to keep me company, alert and interested, musing with me on the habits ad lives of possums.

  569. Oh my word. We have just moved to the US from Australia and a Magimix is right at the top of my kitchen ‘to buy’ list!

  656. Lauren Kumbera says:

Hello and thank you! So here is my little story. My 5 year old nephew loves to come to auntie’s to make parmesan crackers – (well he loves to pour things and I am the maker of said crackers). I have recently moved and the food processor was a casualty. It would be so lovely to have that activity back for when he comes to stay at auntie’s house. So as much as chopped veggies and pesto are definites, crackers (and cute nephews) would get the first turn. And sharing stories is such a fun way to enter a contest. Again, thanks!

  657. What a great giveaway. I’ve never heard of this brand, but I’m going to have to do some research. A new food processor is on my “wish” list at the moment. The one I have is small and requires a couple of batches for every task I attempt. My favorite thing to make in my (admittedly not TINY, but not ever close to big enough…) food processor is home-made salsa. Yum!

  658. Tiffany Paul says:

This machine would be perfect for making butternut soup! I am so ready for fall… stews… soups… etc. Also, the attachments for this machine would make so many kitchen tasks easier. We shop at costco… i chop onions and freeze them for cooking at a later time. This would make short work of this time consuming but money saving task. Good luck everyone!

  706. What a fab giveaway! My food processor is probably one of my most-used gadgets, and sadly, one of my cheapest ones in the kitchen. I’ve splurged elsewhere, but when my ancient Cuisanart from my gram died a horrible death (you know, the giant white bodied one with the buttons you pushed down on the front?) and I could no longer get replacement parts for it, I replaced it with a super-cheap model that works less than half as well (and holds less than half as much, boo!)
