Weather affected my gardening plans, and my herb garden is now sitting in pieces in the garage. It is sad and raining outside for the second weekend in a row. The long and short of it is that it’s not going to happen until sometime this week, but it’s going to happen.
I bought a new cookbook yesterday, Fine Cooking Fresh: 350 Recipes that Celebrate the Seasons. I was inspired by the book club over at Simple Mom, where they’re reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. I’m extremely excited to use it, and I started by making our first trip to the farmer’s market this morning, even though there isn’t much growing here yet. It’s still what is commonly referred to as cold most days.
Monday – blackened Cajun salmon, dirty rice, green beans
Tuesday – pulled pork, coleslaw, baked rum apples
Wednesday – steak sandwiches, Viking (like the boat) potatoes similar to these, maple pan-roasted carrots
Thursday – spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad
Friday – steak and shrimp burritos, rice, chips and salsa and guacamole
What do you think of the wood grain back there? Do you like it? Do you hate it? I thought it made it a bit warmer here, but I’m not sold on it yet. I may change it later.
