Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor Giveaway and Back-to-School Basics

Shaina · September 18, 2012 · 986 Comments

Going through the Eat Well, Spend Less basics of back-to-school ideas for staying sane as we head into the school year, and I’m giving away a Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor with the Juice Extractor and Smoothie Attachment to make it that much easier!

Stuff. Stuff gets in the way of the things I want to accomplish. It sits there towering, a giant pile of misshapen boxes precariously perched on top of each other and forcing me to deal with it by gingerly removing and dealing with one box at a time. Removing them is the only way to get to the other side where my goals like waiting.

I was walking through the farmers market yesterday between rows and rows of fresh produce in abundance thinking about how this is my favorite time of year. There is so much potential just waiting to be used. You just have to make the time to buy cases and cases of tomatoes and berries and green beans and then process them and put them up and THAT is about the time I started to feel my throat close and block off the oxygen from the anxiety of not having enough time.

It seems that there is never enough time for whatever it is we hope to accomplish. So, today, I share with you the secret to having enough time: You must make it.

Some things are worth setting aside the time for. You just need to prioritize what those things are. Last week it was making the drive to my daughter’s first ever swim meet on the high school team, sporting her shiny black and silver suit. I was up to my eyeballs in work. My house was trashed. There were so many things on my to-do list that day I had no hope of finishing them all, even without adding a rush-hour drive and sitting at the pool.

I arrived with the three younger kids in tow. They wanted to climb right over the wall of the balcony and jump in the pool. When it was Kiera’s turn to swim my kids screamed her name. They called down to her after she reappeared at the edge of the pool, and she waved and smiled. And it was worth every minute.

Taking advantage of the farmers market produce at this time of year is similar. You make the time or you don’t, and when I don’t, I regret it. I regret it for months afterwards. Last year I failed to make pesto. I was in the midst of writing my book, my son was in the ICU, I was chairing my kids’ elementary school book fair. It just didn’t happen because I didn’t make the time for it. Months in the winter when I really needed pesto it was unavailable. Our freezer stock was empty, and while I filled in with other things, I even purchased some at the store, it just wasn’t the same.

This year I am determined to kill the time demons where they stand. Pesto is happening. Quarts of crushed tomatoes have been put up. Green beans are next. (I’m coming for you.)

Which brings me to my next bit of business. For the pesto-making and the frozen-smoothie-creating, I bring you a giveaway for a fun kitchen tool that helps make things like this take far less time. You see, 14 cups will do that to you. No, not coffee. Fourteen cups of food processing goodness.+

A Giveaway:

I’m giving away a Magimix 14-Cup Food Processor (the one in the photos above, actually) with the Juice Extractor and Smoothie Attachment (Combined ARV $479.90). It’s a huge food processor that will hold your largest jobs. My favorite part so far is the giant bowl. I used to always get my last food processor to leak. Not so with this one. The variety of blades and their storage case make keeping it ready to go easy, and the juice and smoothie attachment means it serves more than one function.

Leave me a comment! Any little comment. Tell me a story. Don’t. You decide.

I’m a busy mom who is trying to cook more for my family. I am on a roller derby team, where practice is 3 times a week almost an hour away. I also work full time. My son is always needing a rude to and from his own football practices and he has 3 games a week. My husband works out of town. So anything that would make my life a bit easier would be AMAZING!! <3 thanks

    Here’s a story of a fond memory.

My mom and I are known for our carrot cake recipe. We always shredded our carrots in the blender when I was young, because that’s the only thing we had to do it with…when I was 8, we were working as the dynamic duo. She peeled the carrots, dropped them in the blender, and I whirred away. We were moving at lightning speed and I forgot to put the lid on the blender with the last carrots she tossed in. We had carrots ALL OVER the kitchen. We fell on the floor in a fit of laughter and looked up — there were shredded carrots on the ceiling that eventually landed in our hair. We never made a carrot cake again without mentioning the carrot shredding escapade. My mom died three years ago, and it’s one of the best memories I recall.

I so understand what you are saying…you have to make the time to put food up. Many late nights and egg sandwich dinners are the sacrifices I make to can tomatoes and make applesauce and apple butter. In the winter when all you have to do is run to your basement pantry and grab a can of summer bounty, you are so thankful you made the time!

I know what you mean about time. If you have freezer space, you can just freeze tomatoes whole. When you want to make sauce, you just run them under hot water, the peel slips off, and then I plunk them in my pan. They melt/thaw quite nicely. (By the way, I would love a new food processor. The bowl on mine broke, so now I use a skewer to press the locking button down while holding the lid on at the same time).

A story? I love to cook as well, and my house is a constant mess as I grip with what is truly appropriate. I have been on a mission to declutter our home. Yes, but trying to profit by it as well, so there it sits in our living room. So much of it, there is hardly any walking room anymore. All listed on the web waiting for someone to grab it up. But what we truly need is built in bookshelves, for many reasons. We have way too many books. They need a home. Also, we have these great basket in which to put stuff, but no where to put the basket. So I am trying to organize. And if I could combine a few appliances into one, this mixer sounds too good to be true! Hope I win!

Just curious, do they notify the winner by email?

Pesto is my favorite summer food! I check for basil as soon as the Farmer’s Market opens in the spring, and my family eagerly anticipates the very first batch of pesto. I have never tried freezing it, but I can’t imagine a better way to break the winter doldrums than serving a summer favorite in the middle of February!

I have wanted a good food processor forever, but our budget doesn’t allow it. I make my pesto in a blender, which doesn’t yield the same results. Great tools make life so much easier. I have a small yarn and fiber dyeing business and try to buy things for that which will make the work go smoothly and result in less waste overall.

A few months ago, I found out my husband was cheating on me. We went to counseling and tried to make it work. But he decided he didn’t want to be with me. And then he filed for divorce. The past few months have been depressing and trying. My husband left our house, our dog and every responsibility he signed on for. I’ve been working hard to keep things together, but I’ve begun to forget about myself. This gift would remind me why I’m valued, special and loved. I hope you’ll make my wish come true.

What a fantastic device. I have a food processor that is now 10 years old. It was our first wedding present and my husband and I use it on a daily basis. Only, it is starting to make that burning engine smell. Yuck! It would be great to win this one. Hello juicing attachment!

So, my story for you today is this: I tried my hand at canning tomato sauce this year. I made 8 quarts of it from a 25 lb box. Good thing that is all I had cuz it was hard work. The funny part? Or should I scary part? I water-bathed it for 45 minutes. Those jars boiled on my counter for hours. But I read that it is better to over-process than to under-process. I am okay right?

    Ps. I shared on FB.

I’ve seen that the Magimix is the best food processor-it’s made in France by Robot Coupe, the people who invented the food processor. The first Cuisinarts were made by Robot Coupe, but then they went to China for their manufacturing. This is one that’s still good and still made in France.

    I’d love to have one!

    Dear Shaina,

I stumbled upon your website while browsing Facebook and would like to share my story with you. My name is Gianna and I am a senior undergraduate student at UC Berkeley. When I read your post about making time for the important things in life it completely resonated with me- between classes, lab, applying to graduate schools, serving as president of the American Medical Student Association, and working on my senior honors thesis, I can say with confidence that I understand what it is like to be busy. Over the years I’ve learned to prioritize my time better, and recently I have even been setting aside enough time to make it to the gym. The one thing I am still adjusting to is making my own food at home, rather than always eating out and on the run. I would love to win the Magimix giveaway as I believe it would really save me time and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Thank you for sharing your posts and this wonderful giveaway!

I have never owned a food processor in my life. However, I have seen friends who have one use it to do amazing things. I would love to own one someday and coincidentally my hubby and I were just discussing the possibility of purchasing one, but they are so expensive. I blend a lot because of my choices in cooking and the blender we have had since we got married almost six years ago is getting ready to give up the ghost. Hope my name gets chosen for this wonderful life easing tool.

Hello! That food processor is awesome! I recently added “food processor” to my “to get” list. I keep finding recipes that use one and I’ve been procrastinating on trying some new things since I don’t have one. :-). Thanks for the chance to win this!

I need a real food processor. As in one that actually processes. This one looks good.

The smoothie attachment would be great for me to start incorporating more veggies into my diet, and the food processor itself means I can start making my own poi! (I’m usually too lazy/don’t have the time to make it the traditional way. =P)
